Xochimilco, Mexico City - Photographed By: Ithaka

XOCHIMILCO (Southern Mexico City), an ancient (pre-Aztec) series of canals between man-made agricultural islands in the middle of a large lake.

For about the last hundred years it has also been the zone of an incredible folklorish activity...riding up and down the canals in Trajineras (gondola barges).

Basically you show up with with 10-15 of your best friends and...rent a barge and an gondolier and Go. Other smaller barges arrive with by your side with home-cooked meals and drinks...even Mariachis come floating by to serenade you.

One of the most exotic and fun things I've done anywhere !
